Hybrid Software Group, a leading developer of tools for the graphic arts industry, has acquired Creative Edge Software’s iC3D software business for $4 million in cash.
The iC3D software suite generates “photorealistic 3D virtual mockups on the fly, allowing cartons, labels, hoses, bottles, shrink sleeves, point-of-sale displays and in-store visualization to be rendered accurately for design verification and e-commerce applications,” said a hybrid press release.
Additionally, iC3D offers the industry’s largest library of modeling models for digital packaging design and prototyping, as well as an online visualization platform that allows designers, brands and print providers collaborate on new designs with accurate 3D rendering in real time.

“3D and additive manufacturing applications are one of our fastest growing market segments for printhead control electronics and software, but visualizing packaging designs in 3D was a gap in our technology portfolio,” said Mike Rottenborn, CEO of UK-based Hybrid Software Group. .
“The acquisition of iC3D strengthens our 3D offering and closes the loop between the design of high-end labels and packaging and the manufacture of industrial prints. We already have iC3D integration in our PACKZ and CLOUDFLOW software with a substantial installed base of users who have licensed the iC3D option and look forward to wider iC3D integration in our Digital Front Ends (DFEs). ) and other software products.
Trevor Haworth, CEO of Creative Edge, said, “We created Creative Edge Software in 2013 to develop 3D software that would offer packaging and label designers an all-in-one product to replace numerous rendering solutions partial used at the time. Since then, iC3D has become the product of choice for many major brands.
“Almost from the start, HYBRID Software has become one of our largest value-added resellers by combining the rapid visualization capabilities of iC3D with their line of packaging production software products, and a close relationship between the teams development has been established. Our acquisition by Hybrid Software Group is the logical step in co-developing exciting new products for the packaging market and I look forward to our expansion with the additional resources provided by such a successful group. .
The consideration for the acquisition is $4.0 million in cash, which has been paid in full.
